CALIGIURI NOTCHES 11TH WIN DESPITE STRUGGLING AGAINST BOSTON
BOS. 2 5 1
PHI. 3 8 0
WP-FRED CALIGIURI(11-1) LP-LEFTY GROVE
HR-DOM DIMAGGIO
In a special game, two of Philadelphia’s legendary, former players, returned to Shibe Park to take on their old team. Lefty Grove, winner of near 300 games and slugger, Jimmie Foxx, with over 500 home runs; were both in the Red Sox lineup. Foxx had the better day, reaching base three times, with a double, two singles and a walk. Grove was tagged with the loss, pitching five innings, while allowing three runs on seven hits. He also walked six Athletic batters in that span. The Athletics won the game, 3-2.
Fred Caligiuri notched his eleventh win, but he was far from sharp. He gave up two runs, on three hits, one, a Dom DiMaggio homer. He also issued four free passes. Sam Chapman paced the offense, with three hits. He drove in two of Philadelphia’s three runs.
