Fred Caligiuri’s seventh complete game win of the year was the story in game one. Frem limited Detroit to just five hits, though he did issue five walks and did not strike out a single batter. Buck Leonard led the offense, with a triple, single and two runs batted in.

This game went eleven innings. The score was tied, five all, through six innings. Detroit scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, one run coming on a Rudy York home run. James Bell hit a clutch, two run blast, tying the game at seven, in the top of the ninth. In the top of the eleventh, Dick Siebert singled in Biz Mackey with the go ahead run.
Philadelphia now heads to Cleveland, to wind up their latest road trip. The Athletics have increased their lead to five games, in what is a two team race in the American League.
