Bob Gibson and the Cardinals took it on the chin today, as they were shutout, 3-0, by Bob Moose and the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was a banner day for Moose, who outdueled Gibby, allowing just three hits and two walks. Regarding Gibson’s performance, one bad inning did him in. With no score in the top of the third inning, Matty Alou singled, then Roberto Clemente tripled into the right field corner. Willie Stargell quickly made it 3-0 by homering on Gibson’s first offering. The Cardinal ace left after six innings, thus recording his first non-quality start since June. Gibson also dropped this game to Pittsburgh in real life, despite striking out fifteen batters. Therefore, the pace between real life and replay remains the same, with Gibson having one more win in real life, than in the replay.
