Andy Kosco of the Dodgers was the offensive star today. He belted a pair of three-run homers and was responsible for driving in every one of the Dodgers six runs, as Los Angeles clipped the New York Yankees, 6 to 4.

Last place Oakland has had some big wins of late. They put up twelve runs against the Twins, beat the first place Red Sox and now, upset another powerhouse team in Cincinnati, whom they beat, 7 to 2. Sal Bando clubbed two home runs and Bert Campaneris took Gary Nolan deep on the game’s first pitch. It was Catfish Hunter’s first win and a complete game, to boot.

Boston remains in first place by one game. Baltimore is now in sole possession of second place, with Cincinnati in third. The remainder of the teams are one game behind the team ahead of them.
Bobby Tolan of the Reds remains in the lead for the batting title, but Manny Sanguillen of Pittsburgh is hot on his tail. Tolan also leads the league in hits and stolen bases. Johnny Bench still holds the lead in home runs and runs batted in. On the pitching front, the Orioles’ Jim Palmer is the first four game winner but has lost two games. He also has the lowest ERA of a starter, at 1.30.
