Game #55 Recap:
With Baltimore having wrapped up the championship, the clubs largely went with reserves on the next to the last day of the season. Two guys not known for power, took advantage of the opportunity, by hitting home runs off their own cards. Pete Ward of New York and Dick Schofield of Boston. It looks as if the race for the batting title will come down to the last day, between current leader, Don Buford, at .349 and second place, Bobby Tolan, at .347. Don Mincher would have to hit two homers on the last day to catch Johnny Bench for the home run title. Bench leads with 15. The RBI and Pitcher Wins leaders won’t be surpassed, nor will the strikeout leader. All other categories will come down to the final game. All team regulars will start the last game of the season. There will be a team-by-team rundown to come soon, plus the naming of the Most Valuable Player and the Pitcher of the Year.
