Wayne Granger blew a save opportunity, allowing a double, two walks, then committing an error in the top of the ninth, as the fading Reds lost to the Orioles, 5 to 4.

Ray Culp stays unbeaten, tossing a 6 to 0, four-hit shutout, against the Dodgers. Rico Petrocelli belted a pair of home runs.

Minnesota 7 Pittsburgh 2

HR- Richie Hebner (4)

The Twins chased Dock Ellis early, putting up six runs in the first inning, as they cruised to a 7 to 2 victory over the Pirates.

New York 2 Oakland 8

WP- Catfish Hunter (3-3) LP- Fritz Petersen (1-3)

HR- Dave Duncan (2), Don Mincher (10); John Ellis (2)

The Athletics blasted three homers, as they cruised to an easy, 8 to 2 win over the New York Yankees.

Game #33 Recap:

Boston maintains their two-game lead over Baltimore. Speaking of the Orioles, they are in second place by themselves. Minnesota has moved into sole possession of third place. Fading Cincinnati has lost five straight and are now tied for fourth with the Yankees. Oakland is alone in fifth place, and the slumping Dodgers and Pirates are tied for sixth. The Twins put the Pirates five game win streak to bed. Baltimore has the longest current win streak at 3, while Cincinnati has the longest losing streak at 5.

Individually, Don Mincher regains the home run lead at 10, also, he is the first in double figures. Reggie Smith leads in batting and hits and is second in runs. Bobby Tolan leads in doubles and stolen bases and is second in hits and average. Keep an eye on Ray Culp of Boston. He is 4-0 and a 1.80 ERA, also leading the league in strikeouts with 60.
