Offense was nearly non-existent in this game. The only run the Dodgers scored in their 1-0 win was on a wild pitch from Tom Phoebus. Speaking of Phoebus, the Oriole hurler has had more hard luck than any pitcher in the league. He is winless in three games, yet has an ERA of just 2.18.

Boston improved their lead in the standings with a 7 to 3 win over the New York Yankees. The Red Sox scored six runs off of previously unbeaten Steve Kline. Rico Petrocelli’s grand slam was the key blow.

Three Twins pitchers combined to blank the Cincinnati Reds, 5-0. Red hot Cesar Tovar had four hits from the top of the order and Tony Oliva hit a home run.
Pittsburgh 3 Oakland 10

Oakland exploded for ten runs as they demolished the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10 to 3. The Athletics sent 12 men to the plate in the first inning, putting up nine runs. They had seven extra base hits in the game. For Pittsburgh, light hitting Fred Patek was able to clear the wall, with a rare home run.

Recap:
Boston has increased their lead back up to two games over Cincinnati. However, the big story is the Oakland Athletics. They have put together a five-game winning streak and have climbed out of last place, leaving Pittsburgh in sole possession of the cellar. Cesar Tovar and Tony Oliva are in a tight race for the batting crown, separated by just two hundredths of a percentage point. Tovar currently leads the league in four categories.
