Game 27 recap:

All the road teams won. With Oakland beating Boston and Cincinnati losing to New York, Baltimore is now in sole possession of second place. The Red Sox hold a one game lead over the Orioles. All teams are separated by one game, until you get to L.A. and Oakland, who are tied for sixth. The Pirates continue to spiral, having dropped four in a row. Game 27 saw a complete game from Mike Cuellar and a grand slam from Don Mincher. Speaking of Mincher, his big day led to him showing up on the Leaderboard. He is one off the lead in home runs and is now top five in runs and rbi’s. Reggie Smith of Boston is leading the league in batting and is nearing the .400 mark, at .394. There are a couple of # 4 pitchers who are pitching like aces. Diego Segui, at 4-1, 1.96ERA is one of them. The way this schedule is set up, for the most part the “1’s” always play the “1’s” and so on, so that may be a factor. Regardless, some fine pitching.
